Brakes for a 60 lb e-bike: the upgrade that matters more than the motor

A converted bike with a battery and motor weighs 55 to 70 lb and goes faster than it did. Rim brakes are not enough. Minimum: cable disc brakes with 180 mm rotors and sintered pads. Better: hydraulic discs (a Shimano MT200 set is $80 to $100 and transformative). If your frame has no disc mounts, an adapter exists for some, and otherwise good rim pads (Kool Stop salmon) and tuned V-brakes with the brake cutoff sensors working are the floor. Check pad wear monthly; e-bikes eat pads.

I did the same repair last month and your step 3 is where I got stuck. Wish I had this then.

The "what went wrong" section is the most useful part of this. More people should do that.
