E-bike law basics in the US: classes, wattage and where a DIY build lands
Difficultyeasy
Most states use the three-class system: Class 1 pedal-assist to 20 mph, Class 2 throttle to 20 mph, Class 3 pedal-assist to 28 mph, all with a 750 W nominal motor limit. A DIY build is legally whatever you can show it does; many conversion kits ship with higher limits that you can program down. A 1,500 W kit at 35 mph is a moped or motorcycle in the eyes of the law almost everywhere, which matters the day you are in a crash. Set your display's speed limit, keep the sticker from the kit, and ride where the class allows.

Tried this over the weekend and it worked first time. Thanks for writing it up properly.
Right around what the post says, give or take shipping.
The "what went wrong" section is the most useful part of this. More people should do that.
Upvoted for the safety notes alone.
Yep, same here. The second time is always faster.
I did the same repair last month and your step 3 is where I got stuck. Wish I had this then.
The embedded video is clearer than the official service manual, which is a little embarrassing for the manufacturer.
