Waterproofing a DIY e-bike: the connectors fail before anything else
Difficultyeasy
Cost$10
Dielectric grease in every connector, especially the hall sensor and display plugs. Self-amalgamating tape over the Anderson or XT60 battery plug. Drip loops: route every cable so it goes down before it goes into a connector or the controller. Seal the controller's cable entry with silicone. Never pressure-wash a hub motor; the axle seals are not that good. If the motor has been submerged, open the side cover, dry it, and regrease. A $5 tube of dielectric grease prevents 80% of the "it just stopped working in the rain" posts.

I did the same repair last month and your step 3 is where I got stuck. Wish I had this then.
Should be the same procedure, the part moved slightly but the steps match.
Tried this over the weekend and it worked first time. Thanks for writing it up properly.
Small addition: wear eye protection for the part where you pry it. Learned that one the hard way.
Question: do you need to disconnect power for this or is it safe to leave it plugged in?
