Small parts storage that you will actually keep sorted

Rules that worked after three failed systems:

1. Clear drawers, not opaque. If you cannot see it, you buy it again.
2. One fastener type per drawer, labelled with size and what it is for ("#8 x 1-1/4 wood, cabinet backs").
3. A sorting tray on the bench that gets emptied into the drawers weekly, not every time.
4. Harbor Freight / Akro-Mils style bins on a French cleat strip for the stuff you grab daily: zip ties, wire nuts, drywall screws.
5. Throw away mixed-hardware coffee cans. You will never sort them. Dump them in a magnet tray at a yard sale.
