Lumber and sheet goods storage in a garage that also holds a car
Difficultyeasy
Cost$40 to $80
Vertical sheet storage against the wall the car does not open its door toward: a 2x4 ledge on the floor and a strap at the top, sheets on edge. Takes 8" of depth. Cutoffs in a rolling bin sorted by length. Long boards on a cantilever rack (the $40 steel ones or 2x4 arms bolted to studs) above head height along the side wall, 24" between arms, no more than 150 lb per level.
The rule that keeps it under control: if a cutoff is shorter than 12" or narrower than 3", it goes in the kindling bin, not the lumber rack.

Upvoted for the safety notes alone.
This is the kind of post that makes this place worth it.
Glad it helped.
Small addition: wear eye protection for the part where you pry it. Learned that one the hard way.
Solid. Sending this to my brother who keeps asking me to fix his.
Right around what the post says, give or take shipping.
Question: do you need to disconnect power for this or is it safe to leave it plugged in?
Should be the same procedure, the part moved slightly but the steps match.
