Bottle-cap table leveler: fix a wobbly table in 30 seconds

Why

The kitchen table has rocked for three years. Folded napkins get kicked loose, and the "proper" fix (unscrewing the leg and shimming it) never happens because it is a 20-minute job that nobody does.

Steps

  1. Flip the table or tip it up so you can reach the short leg.
  2. Press a bottle cap onto the bottom of the leg, open side up, and check whether the gap closes. If the cap is too tall, trim the rim with a utility knife until the table sits flat.
  3. Run a bead of hot glue around the inside of the cap and press it onto the leg. Hold for 20 seconds.
  4. Set the table down. Done.

What went wrong

The first cap was from a sparkling water bottle and was slightly too tall. Soda caps are shorter. If it is still off, a layer of cardboard inside the cap fine-tunes it.

Materials

  • 1 plastic bottle cap
  • hot glue

Tools

  • hot glue gun
  • utility knife

Tried this over the weekend and it worked first time. Thanks for writing it up properly.

Unplug it. Always. Takes two seconds and the worst case otherwise is a trip to the ER.

Question: do you need to disconnect power for this or is it safe to leave it plugged in?
