Mold release: when you need it, when it ruins the mold, and what to use
Difficultyeasy
Silicone against almost anything: no release needed. Silicone against silicone (second half of a two-part mold): always, or you get one solid block. Urethane rubber against anything: always. Resin into silicone: not needed, but a light release extends mold life. Epoxy into silicone: release, epoxy is sticky.
Use the release made for the material. Petroleum jelly thinned with mineral spirits works in a pinch for silicone-on-silicone. Never use silicone spray on a master you will cast platinum silicone over; some contain inhibitors.

Small addition: wear eye protection for the part where you pry it. Learned that one the hard way.
Yep, same here. The second time is always faster.
Upvoted for the safety notes alone.
Question: do you need to disconnect power for this or is it safe to leave it plugged in?
Should be the same procedure, the part moved slightly but the steps match.
Can confirm, the cheap part is the one that fails. Replaced mine twice before reading this.
Unplug it. Always. Takes two seconds and the worst case otherwise is a trip to the ER.
Solid. Sending this to my brother who keeps asking me to fix his.
