Six months of weekends. Douglas fir 2x12s ripped and laminated, leg vise with a wooden screw I turned myself, holdfast holes on a 4" grid. Flat to within a 1/32 across 7 feet. The top alone weighs more than my car payment.

That leg vise screw is gorgeous. What did you use for the garter?

Quarter-sawn white oak for the garter, bedded in epoxy. The screw is hard maple.

Construction lumber benches are underrated. People spend $3k on a bench and then are scared to hit anything on it.
